BIOGRAPHY OF PAUL FAHEY

Paul Fahey is Executive Director of the 9-1-1 Industry Alliance, Inc. (9IA), the nation's emergency communications industry trade association. He assumed this position in July 2009 after thirty years of government and industry experience at all levels.

Prior to taking the helm at 9IA, Paul was the Director of External Affairs for three years at PlantCML, an EADS North America Company, where he led the company's government and association affairs activities. In this role, Paul was an active participant in 9IA (Board Treasurer) and other public safety and emergency communications associations.

Paul spent a decade in Massachusetts state government, including service as senior staff member in the State Senate and House of Representatives, Chief of Staff for the Executive Office of Public Safety, and five years as Executive Director of the Statewide Emergency Telecommunications Board (managing the Massachusetts Enhanced 9-1-1 system, one of the largest in the United States). Paul was the Secretary of the National Association of State 9-1-1 Administrators (NASNA) and Chair of the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) Regulatory & Legislative Affairs Committee.

In addition to his time in state government, Paul has an extensive background in municipal government in his hometown of Watertown, Massachusetts. He served as an elected member of the Town Council, School Committee, Planning Board, and Town Meeting — with the distinction of having been the youngest person elected to public office in the history of the state.

Paul holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Massachusetts and a Master of Public Administration from Suffolk University (where he served as an Adjunct Professor of Public Management for eight years). He has also completed the Senior Executives Program at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. He is currently writing his dissertation to complete his Doctor of Business Administration at Golden Gate University.

In addition to leading 9IA, Paul is an At-Large Member of the E9-1-1 Institute Board of Directors. He resides in the Columbia Heights neighborhood in Washington, D.C. and the Outer Richmond District of San Francisco, California.
