Apr. 10 The U.S. Senate today adopted endorsing April as National 9-1-1 Education Month. The resolution, sponsored by Congressional E9-1-1 Caucus Co-Chairs: Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY) and Senator Ted Stevens (R-AK), puts Congress behind a national effort. Kevin Murray, 9IA Vice-Chairman is quoted in the release.

Apr. 1 April is 9-1-1 Education month. Check out the press release or the E9-1-1 Institute site for what will be happening in the month of April to help educate the public.

Mar. 11 9IA executive director Jeff Robertson will address the Missouri NENA membership. Missouri is recognized as one of the states in jeopardy of offering 9-1-1 service to the public due to a lack of wireless legislation even though over 50% of the calls are from wireless subscribers. The event is to be held March 9 - 12th at the Tan-Tara Resort.
Mar. 5 On Wednesday, March 5, 2008, the 9-1-1 Industry Alliance (9IA) presented its findings of the report on the health of the 9-1-1 Emergency Network. Full press release. See NBC coverage of report release.
Mar. 4 9IA distributes report to public safety officials attending the NENA, "9-1-1 Goes to Washington" event in D.C. today, so that they can bring them to their respective legislators when they meet on March 5th.
Feb. 29 9IA Announces two new members: TruePosition's Mike Amarosa, Senior Vice President of Public Affairs and TCS - TeleCommunication Systems, Dick Dickinson, Senior Director, Public Safety. Both these companies are actively involved in public safety and both Mr. Amarosa and Mr. Dickinson have decades of experience in the public safety field. 9IA is looking forward to serving them and their input and assistance in shaping 9IA policy.
Feb. 27 Senate passed S 428, the IP-Enabled Voice Communications and Public Safety Act. This is a companion bill to HR 3403, the 911 Modernization Act, that passed the House in December. Additionally, the National 9-1-1 Education Month Resolution (House Resolution 537) was adopted by the House Government Reform and Oversight Committee today

REPORT STRESSES NEED FOR BROADBAND SERVICES, GREATER COORDINATION FOR HEALTH CARE SECTOR
“The U.S. is home to the best doctors, the most capable emergency medical workers, and the most-capable communications technologies and networks available in the world today,” said the 80-page report prepared by the Joint Advisory Committee on Communications Capabilities of Emergency Medical and Public Health Care Facilities.

Dec. 13 Michigan passed wireless funding legislation last night which is in parity with land line. Unfortunatley it has a sunset provision in 14 months. Read more at the Michigan Association of Counties.
